In
Xanele there are various types of magic. Magic is defined
as any art that invokes supernatural
powers. It is an intrinsic part of the world, one of the
three components in the triangle of balance. Here it covers
the basics of magic and its subdivisions. Below there are
some fundamentals of it's use.
Faith
Draba
Soul
Psionics
Faith is a institution to express belief in a divine power.
It is also trust in this divine power and the plan 'the
powers that be' have for the individual. Trust is established
through experience. Faith is a process, and something that
moves us to action. Faith is not merely an intellectual
concept since Faith without actions is dead. This leads
to the idea that something can be made true, merely by praying
it to be so. This is the essence of 'Faith Magic' but theologicians
have different arguments and definitions for Faith as well
as reasons to why priests can perform miracles. Miracles
are the most palpable representation of Faith Magic. It
is enough to understand that Faith Magic has three components:
the trust of the individual in the power of the divinity,
the experience that builds up trust and the chaneling of
divine manifestation.
Spirit Magic:
Everything living, inanimate or conceptual has an embodiment
in spirit. For example, the Spirit of the Wolf, the Spirit
of the Stone and the Spirit of the Grass to mention a few.
There is a hierarchy of Spirits with one major godling and
lesser Spirits that may embody a singularity instead of
a whole. All of these manifest in a realm parallel to that
of the Prime that is ruled by Najwa. Spirits are a base
reflection and without definition they cease to exist. For
example if all wolves were killed the Spirit of the Wolf
remains for as long as there is someone that remembers what
a wolf is. The Wolf Spirit would then look for a way to
reinstate the wolf (easier said than done) or in some cases
make sure the memory of the wolf lives on. Spirits are in
charge of protecting their given manifestation. Spirit Magic
taps into the realm of the Spirts to ask for their favor.
Some forms of Spirit Magic control certain Spirits and may
even grant acess into the Realm of Spirits.
The Tainami are of the few that practice Spirit Magic. They
revere the spirits and have many ceremonies in memory of
their ancestors so that they are not forgotten and their
'spirit' lingers to help them.

Draba
Drabaerne
or 'Magic' in the pure sense of the word are the supernatural
forces and energies that infuse and surround the world.
Drabaerne is as essential to existance as nature, although
not all creatures are enlightened to the effect of it
in their lives. In fact, most mages strive to control
the magic that surrounds them since it is easier to understand
and control. The race most adept in the ways of the Drabaerne
are the Alanois. They have accepted and incorporated the
external force as part of life and internalized it. They
have also managed to understand the magic within. Although
they still require study and concentration to harness
the energy, Magic to them has become as fundamental as
breathing.
Other mages try to harness these forces and energies through
the use of words, gestures and catalyzing materials. The
control of Drabaerne requires great study and dedication
from the mage. With time mages can become so attuned to
the ways of Drabaerne that it begins to manifest in different
ways.
Glamour:
In it's use in magic Glamour is exclusively without
exceptions a fae magic. Glamour energizes the
world around it, shedding light on everything it touches
and transforming the most ordinary object into a thing
of unimaginable beauty or indiscribable terror. If matter
forms the building blocks of the mortal world, then glamour
compromises the basic stuff of fae reality. Like most
sources of energy Glamour is imperceptible to normal senses.
Lacking belief, non-fae cannot see Glamour or anything
created from it unless infused with Glamour by a fae.
Nonetheless it is as real as the tangible and fae knows
that Glamour exists and use it to power their magic.

Soul Magic was first used by the immortals. Soul magic functions
on the simple principle that a soul is an infinite thing.
Theoretically you can draw infinite amounts of energy from
it to power your spells for various effects. However. You
can only draw a certain amount at any one time. Like drawing
water from an infinite well. The amount you draw depends
on the size of your pail. To begin learning soul magic you
must first learn draw on the sprites. Disembodied souls
that fly about Xanele. The student must learn to connect
to them and befriend them. Once befriended the student can
start to draw power from the soul. As the students power
grows he or she can gather other spirits to him. This is
only the first step of the process. The next step is learning
to draw power from one’s own soul. A living soul is
a 100 times more powerful then a departed one. However,
this is also the most dangerous part of learning soul-magic
Some students start to tap their spiritual energy. This
energy can be used but if over used it can kill the user.
Spirit energy is the glue that binds the soul to the body.
Once a person has mastered soul magic they can draw great
power from themselves. This usually has strange effects
on them. Some age slower, others gain an aura that radiates
their alignment. It takes many years and lots of effort
and training to get to this stage but once done it grants
great power.

Psionics
The
psionicist shapes, controls, harnesses and utilizes natural
forces that infuse his own being. The efforts are concentrated
inwards instead of outward. To do this the psionics must
be completly in touch with and aware of even the tiniest
workings of body and mind. This knowledge comes from long
and intense meditation coupled with physial extremes.
The psionics finds enlightment in both complete exhaustion
and complete relaxation, in both pain and pleasure. The
mind and body are only parts of a much greater unity.
Discussing one without the other are nonsensical to the
psionicst as they cannot be separated. The body produces
energy and vitality, the mind gives it shape and reality.
For as long as the psionist mind and body are rested the
powers are within and available.
The psionicst strives to unite every aspect of his self
into a single, powerful whole. He looks inward to the
essence of his own being, and gains control of his subconcious.
Through extraordinary discipline, contemplation, and self-awareness,
he unlocks the full potential of his mind. (From Psionics
Handbook).
